Trout on a fly? That's right. Caught trout on live shrimp under popping cork, and then went to fly rod. Caught several on a white/chartruese clauser. Finished the day with 50 specks and kept 2 reds. Released several bull reds and several other keepers. First time for Ry and Ryder to fish Venice. I am certain they will be back. Have some weekdays open in July. If you would like to make a Venice trout/redfish trip, give me a call. 225-268-0616.

The trout are starting to bite in Venice. Fished Tuesday with Walter, Ernie, and Brian from Baton Rouge. Had a respectable trip with a 20 mph south wind blowing us around. The guys caught 30 trout, all between 1 1/2 to 3 lbs. About half came on purple/ch cacahoe under a cork, and the others came on live shrimp under a cork. The winds are supposed to settle down by Sunday and give the water a chance to clear a bit. That should produce some good catches.
It is time to start booking your spring and summer trip. Call 225-268-9616. Capt Larry

I had the pleasure of sharing the boat for three days with a true fishing family. Jason, Sandy, 8 yr old Cade, and 6 year old Reed. It was a ball. The whole family could fish. Even the little guys. Believe me, they could outcast some adults. And reel em in. The fishing was fair, but they made the best of it. On Thursday they put a limit of 20 reds in the boat, along with a few trout. On Friday we fished for trout, hitting several early season spots and came away with 35 trout from 1 1/2 lbs to 2 lbs. Not bad for a cold and muddy river. All the trout came on purple/ch under a popping cork. The reds on market bait. We shared a lot of laughs and had a great time. I am looking forward to their next trip. Fun is what it is all about.

Spring is here, and you know that means the big trout bite is just around the corner. It is time to book that trip for the spring or summer. Give me a call, and let's go fishing. 225-268-9616.

Fishing is really picking up in Venice. The river is finally cleaning up, and the fish are moving in. With this cold front and the next moon we should see the bite really take off. The last two days have produced really good catches of trout and reds. Today was a "sit at home and watch it blow" day. But with the winds calming down in the next couple of days the bite will pick up again. Fall is a great time to fish the Venice area. The fishing at this time of year is phenomenal. Give me a call to book a trip for November. 225-268-9616. Capt Larry Averitt

The trout bite is starting to pick up in Venice. The redfish bite is awesome. Fished with Russ and Don Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. The bite was good Monday and Tuesday, but with the front and the wind change on Tuesday the trout slowed down. Hopefully, we will continue to have cooler weather, and the trout will go into the fall feeding frenzy. Don't miss out. 225-268-9616

High River, muddy water, who cares? The fish are biting in Venice. Redfish are the main target, and every boat in our group had limits today. I am not going to complain about the high river. It will do our marsh a tremendous amount of good. The grass will grow and the fishing will be better.

Please don't think that because the water is high that the fish don't bite in the Venice area. The redfish bite is great. And trout are being caught in a few spots. We need the wind to settle down, and blow from one direction for awhile to allow some clean water to come in underneath. That will trigger the trout bite. This is something we deal with just about every year. Nothing new here. Fishing in Venice is GOOD!
Bait shrimp under a popping cork works like a charm.

Capt Larry Averitt

Venice, LA USA

It was a great morning to be fishing Venice, LA. The weather was perfect and the fish were biting. I had Buddy, Chuck and Hunter on board for some fast trout action. Our first stop produced only a couple of small trout. Didn't take long for me to pull the anchor and move on. The second stop was the gold mine. Virtually every cast produced a good solid keeper trout. Live shrimp was the producer. Probably could have caught them with plastic, but we didn't have time to see. The guys were putting them in the boat as fast as I could take them off. If you would like to get in on some excellent fishing them give me a call. 225-268-9616

The bite remains good to excellent out of Venice. Thursday I had Ted, Matt, and Bill on board, and they had a great time putting a limit of Venice trout in the boat. I think they were a bit skeptical when we first stopped. The water where we shut down was dirty enough to plant corn, but I could see the color change in the back of a small pocket and this is where the fish were. Got set up, and the guys started catching. The bite was not fast, but steady. Dudley shrimp tail (Glow) under a cork put most of the fish in the boat. When the bite slowed we changed to live shrimp, and the trout fired up again. Went back to the plastic to finish the limit of 75.

Saturday I had Walter, Ernie, and Rip fishing, and they put another 75 Venice trout in the box. The bite was faster Saturday, and the fish came on the same Dudley shrimp tail. Looks like it is going to be another really good season out of Venice. If you would like to make a trip, give me a call (225-268-9616). Lets go fishing!!

Venice , LA USA

Home for a couple of days and thought I would put up a quick post on the happenings downriver from Venice. Trout, Trout and Trout. Oh yea, and redfish, too. It has been a good week for fishing out of Venice, even with some stiff winds. I fished three different groups out of Baton Rouge this week, and they all caught limits of trout. Sizes ranged from 1 1/2 to 3 lbs. All of our fish came under a popping cork on plastic, with the exception of half a limit on live shrimp on Wednesday. The rest came on the Hybrid Flurry 3 inch in glow. An awesome bait. If you haven't tried it, you should. I picked up a few at the Sportsman Show, and wish I had gotten more.

The Hybrid Flurry has a lot of action, but it is also a tough bait. You can catch a bunch of trout without having to change out baits too often. I think you will like it if you give it a try.

Fishing is good. Trout and reds are biting. If you would like to make a trip, give me a call. 225-268-9616. I have a few days left in March. April and May only a few scattered days, andJune is booking. Don't wait. Get the guys together and let's go fishing!!

Venice, LA USA

All week it has been Venice trout and redfish. What else could you ask for? The fog was tough on the river a couple of days and made us a bit late getting out, but the fish were still biting when we arrived downriver. The trout right now are averaging 1 1/2 to 2 lbs. with the occasional 4-5lb fish, and the reds are ranging from 17 inches to monsters. It is all good and a load of fun.
Trout are taking plastics under a popping cork as well as casting and reeling a 1/4 oz jig and plastic. Reds are coming on spinnerbaits and plastic under a popping cork.
The more sun we have the better the bite will be.
I have a few days left in March, but only a couple in April and May. June is booking now, so if you want to make a trip now is the time to get your name on the books. Let's go fishing!!!  Capt. Larry 225-268-9616

Trout Are Biting! Purple/Chartruese under a popping cork did the job. After fighting dirty water for weeks, it was nice to find some really clean water and catch some really nice Venice trout. We had several in the 4 pound range and a bunch of 1 3/4 to 2 pound fish. The warm days have been a plus, and the fish have turned on. My clients added 15 reds that ranged from 17 inches to 24 inches to their catch, with several bull reds caught and released. The action was steady all morning with one of the guys being hooked up pretty much all the time.
If you would like to get in on some great spring fishing in Venice, now is the time to book your trip. Let's go fishing!

Redfish is the king right now in Venice. However, with the warmer weather, the trout will soon be taking center stage. I had the pleasure of fishing with the Nick Carter group on Monday and Tuesday and each day we caught 3 man limits of good keeper size reds and released many more to fight another day. Wednesday was a repeat with Walter, Ernie and Rip. The weather wasn't as nice, but the fish responded just as well, if not better. We kept 15 nice eating size reds and released about 30 more. Water clarity is getting a bit better, and plastic (Ch or purple/Ch) under a popping cork is working really well. If these warm days continue the trout will be doing there thing really soon. Watch the River and the weather for a really good trip.
Now is the time to book your trip for the spring or summer. Let's go fishing! You can reach me at 225-268-9616.

Haven't put up a post in a while, and thought while I was home for a day or two, I would give you an update on the Venice area. From Wednesday thru Saturday redfish was the main target due to the winds. The secondary passes produced limits on each day. Plastic on a 1/4 oz jighead fished off the ledges was the main producer. My guys did do some sight-casting on Friday and Saturday, which proved to be very productive. Watching a redfish eat the bait is a lot of fun. If you haven't tried this method of fishing then you don't know what you are missing. Sunday the winds laid, and I was able to get to a couple of spots on the east side of the river that have been producing some excellent catches of trout. Our first stop gave up six 2lb trout and a bunch of lady fish. We were fishing Dudley Terror Tails (purple/ch) on a 3/8 oz jighhead in 12ft of water. After a short run we pulled in on another rig, and one of the guys hooked up. It was on! Jeff, Mark, Darren, and Steve put another 94 Venice trout in the box. Even though you can still catch em on plastic, I like to treat live shrimp like an American Express card and not leave home without it. You never know this time of the year what it is going to take to catch em. If you would like to make a trip in September you can give me a call at 225-268-9616. I have only a couple of days left in October, but November should be excellent if you want to wait until then. Let's go fishing! Until next time "stick em and net em".

Got a chance to come home for a day and took it. Haven't been putting up any reports because Brent and I haven't replaced the computer at the camp in Venice as of yet (no phone line in the house either). But the fishing has been excellent.
There is lodging available, and the Riverside Restaurant is now open. We are making progress. If you don't want to cook for yourself then you now have options. If you want to catch Venice trout and reds, then now is the time. The bite is on. Topwater, jigs and plastic under a cork, or tight lined. No matter how you like to fish, you can catch them. Most of the guides have shown back up and are fishing. I have only a few days left in June, but July and the rest of the summer are pretty much open. If you want to go then give me a call. If you have a favorite guide in Venice, then give him a call. He would appreciate the business, also.  The bite is on, and the guides in Venice are ready to show you a good time. Sunday was the last day I fished, and my party put 41 Venice trout in the boat. All on topwater. We had a 3.19lb average on the fish caught. It was fun. There are a lot of fish being caught in Venice that you are probably not hearing about, but the fish are there and you should be too. Give me a call. 225-268-9616. Hey guys! It is time to book your spring and summer trips to Venice. There are some of us still working out of the Venice Marina. AND CATCHING FISH! The fishing has been pretty good. Should continue to get better with the low river and the warm days that we are having.
We have lodging available, also. You still have to bring something to eat. Whether you use the grill, stove or make yourself a sandwich, it is all good. At least we have a place for you and your guests to sleep and shower. Not bad after what we have been through. Things are progressing in Venice, albeit slow. The best news is we still have fish for the catching. Give me a call for fishing and lodging. LET'S GO FISHING! 225-268-9616

Capt. Larry Averitt

Venice, LA USA

This is the first time I have been on the site in quite a while. It is good to see some reports from some of the regulars and to hear the optimisim in the written word. I lost just about everything in Venice, as did everyone down there. But with a little time and hard work, we will be back.
To all of my customers and friends, THANK YOU for the kindness and encouragement. All of us will get through these tough times, and Venice will be back better than ever.
Now for fishing. I have taken up temporary residence in Cocodrie along with a few other inshore captains. My new 24 Champion arrived last week and my first three days of charter fishing out of Bayou Bait and Tackle Marina produced excellent results. Didn't catch many redfish, but the trout were hungry. Each day provided really good boxes of fish. I suspect the fishing will only get better with this weather from the north, and the water cooling down, and the trout will get bigger. I have a couple of trips going out next week, and hopefully a couple of more the next.
All of our fish came on plastic cocahoes under a popping cork (purple/ch). The patterns are very similar to Venice. It is just a matter of finding them.
For those of you that can't get to your favorite spots, don't be afraid to try some new ones. I am looking at the maps, also. Find a spot on the map and try it. Take your time if you are not familiar with the area, and Be Safe. Fishing is fishing. No matter where you fish. Enjoy the experience.
Before I close let me say that the folks at Bayou Bait and Tackle have welcomed us with open arms. And the captains there have been very kind. Good people all. Thank you!
Let's Go Fishing! It is time! 225-268-9616. Until next time "stick em and net em".

Saturday I had the pleasure of sharing the boat with Bart, Leonard and Jason. The weather was great and so was the fishing. After pulling another boat off of a mud flat we proceeded to catch 75 trout and 10 nice keeper redfish, and one bull that deserved a picture and was released. Our fish came on plastic under a popping cork and tightlining a 1/4 oz jighead and plastic (purple/ch). The redfish bite has been non-stop, and the trout are starting to show in spots downriver. Warm days and decent water clarity is all we need for the bite to really take off. Spring dates are filling up, so if you want to make a trip then you need to book now. Looks like we are going to have a really good spring this year. Hope you have a good season wherever you choose to fish. Fog was terrible in Venice yesterday morning. We had to wait until 9:15 to get under way. Even at that the river was still a blanket of white, so Walter, Ernie, Doug and I headed to the Yellow Cotton area. Our first stop was our last. Doug broke the ice with a nice trout caught on live shrimp under a cork. Set the anchor pole and the guys put another 74 in the boat in an hour and a half. We had a great time and a lot of laughs. After all the fun is what it is all about. Right? I guess it doesn't hurt that you catch a fish on just about every cast. After a limit of trout, I asked if the guys wanted to try redfish. They opted to head for the marina. What started as a miserable morning of fog turned into a great morning of catching fish. Hope you get to enjoy some of the terrific fall and winter fishing the Venice area has to offer. Until next time "stick em and net em".

Where would you want to be when there is little wind and great weather? Your answer has to be Venice, LA. The bite is on! The river is finally getting right, and the trout and reds are cooperating. Fished the last two days with a group from Dallas. Topwater action on reds and trout. What could be better? Don't answer that. The fishing is great. If you don't have a trip scheduled (whether with a guide or on your on) then you are missing out on some of the best fishing of the year. If the river stays down, then it will only get better in the next few weeks. Give me a call. Let's go fishing.

Trout Slammer, I just got in from Venice and this is my first opportunity to respond to  the email sent to me concerning my conservation manners. Sir, I fish approx. 180 to 200 days per year and have only caught two trout 8lbs or better. Both of which will now be hanging on the wall. Anyone who fishes for trout knows that this size fish doesn't come along every day. To catch one is certainly special. My clients have caught many 5, 6, and 7 pound fish, along with a few 8's. I encourage them to release this size fish if they don't intend to mount them. No one knows better than a professional guide that our fishery needs to be protected and nourished, and I try on a daily basis to do my part. With that said, I can assure you that the next 8lb or better trout that I catch will also go on the wall. If you would like the opportunity to catch one for yourself, then give me a call. I have a few days left in July. Capt. Larry

Yesterday I had Allen, Scott and Shelly on board for a redfish trip. We had a great time and a lot of laughs catching a limit of reds on spinner-baits and gold spoons. Could have probably caught some on topwater, but the sun was bright and the water extremely clear when we found these fish. Sight fishing for reds is a blast. If you haven't tried it, you owe it to yourself to give it a go. You will be surprised at how much excitement it will add to fishing for reds. An added note. Just a quick Venice report. Yesterday I had Larry, Steve and Goalie on board for some Venice fishing. Granted the fishing is not the best right now, but we got on a good bite just before the storms ran us in. Fishing out of 27 pass we had 14 reds and 25 nice Venice trout and had to leave them biting. You had to really concentrate to feel the bite because of the strong current, but when the guys got the hang of it they were catching on almost every cast. Live Venice Marina shrimp on a Carolina rig did the trick. Larry kept looking back as we pulled away from the rig. Knowing we were leaving some good fish behind was tough, but Mother Nature was closing on us pretty fast, and we couldn't wait any longer to start our run for the Marina. Looks like the River is going to crest this week and start a fall. Hopefully we will have some really nice water for July. The rest of June is booked, but I have days open in July if you would like to book a trip. Give me a call at 225-268-9616 or 225-761-9954

Fished Friday with Bobby, Skip and Glen from Georgia. They showed at the Marina beat up from Thursday's Tuna trip. The wind on the inside wasn't much better for them. It was a tough day but they fished hard for the 10 trout and 2 reds that they put in the box. We had been catching some good boxes in the Yellow Cotton area, but the late week winds churned that area pretty good. Saturday I had Jimmy Hubbard, 10 year old Trevor, and Ronnie from Baton Rouge. We headed downriver in search of some redfish action and found 10 nice keepers and 2 bulls (25 and 28 lbs) that were ready to put up a fight. We also had 1 trout that went 4 pounds on the boga grip. Spinner baits produced the reds and a tightlined bayou chub caught the one trout of the day. All fish came out of 2 to three feet of water that was less than clean. It was just cleaner. We had a great time and enjoyed some great weather. Trevor showed the big boys that he is ready to do it on his own with his casting and catching. He did an excellent job of fighting and landing his reds. It is time to book your spring trip, so give me a call and let's go fishing! 225-761-9954 or 225-268-9616. Just a quick report to let you know there are still fish to catch. Capt. Brent Roy, another captain I got together the other day for a little fun fishing. That is exactly what we did. We fished for fun and had a great time. Caught fish and laughed at each other a lot. The fish we caught came on a 1/4 oz jighead and plastic under a cork. Typical for this time of year. Warm afternoons and sunshine are triggering a good bite. Yesterday was the same. I had Mike, Brent, and Mike from Georgia on board and we managed to put a good box of trout together. Nice weather and good fishing. If you would like to get in on some of this early spring action then give me a call, and I will do my best to make it happen for you. 225-268-9616 or 225-761-9954. The fishing in Venice is still good. The river is rising but there is a bit of good water still around. Plastic under a cork and tightlined with a 1/4 oz. jighead are the producers. Purple/ch seems to be the color of choice. Thur and Fri I fished with Jerry and Chris from Missouri. We had respectable catches each day with the larger trout caught Thursday (2-4lbs). Friday we caught more fish, but they ran a little smaller with a few 3lb fish mixed in. The reds were not as cooperative Thur and Fri, but Saturday Bill, Ken and Key, from Georgia, worked on the reds. They caught a really nice box of fish and even released some good ones. The wind gave us a hard time, but the guys did a great job and had some real fun. If you would like to book a trip, give me a call at 225-268-9616 or email me and I will be glad to set it up. I have some days open the last two weeks of this month. It is not too early to start thinking about the spring trips. Those days are already booking. To get the days you want call early. Until next time "stick em and net em".

Capt. Larry Averitt

Fishing in Venice is good! Trout are being caught on purple/char fished on the bottom. 4-12 ft deep. Had the pleasure of fishing Sunday with Bucky and William from Georgia. After some good natured fun about the LSU/Georgia games, we turned to catching trout and reds. The guys had a great time and boated limits of redfish and 20 trout. They caught a few in the 4 and 5 lb range with most being in the 1 1/2 to 2 lb class. Monday I fished with Bob from California. He works overseas in the oil industry and has fished for many different species of fish. However, he had never fished for specks and reds. We pulled up to our first stop and the bite was on. After catching a limit of trout, we started on the redfish. The wind got up and we had a hard time catching our reds. After several stops we had only 4 in the box with a couple that took Bob's jig and left. We decided to try to beat the weather back to the marina. Unfortunatley that didn't happen.  Bob got a taste of what catching reds is like. He is out with me again Friday, and I think we will concentrate our efforts toward a limit of redfish. I have some days open in January if you would like to book a trip. Wear some warm clothes and let's go fishing! Give me a call at 225-761-9954 or 225-268-9616. Until next time

I have been told by a lot of folks that they haven't seen any of my posts lately. Well, it is because I have been in Venice catching fish. The reds have been taking topwaters and jigs like crazy, and sight fishing has been excellent. If you enjoy watching a redfish eat your bait then now is the time. The trout are trying to move in, but haven't quite made the transition around Venice as of yet. It won't be long, though. There are some showing up in spots, but they are scattered. Another cool front or two should do the trick. It is a busy time of the year, but I have a few days left in November should you want to make a trip to Venice before the cold sets in. Some, but not all, know that the fishing in November in Venice is some of the best. There will be a lot of big trout to be caught, and the reds will be plentiful. Hope you can make it. Until next time "stick em and net em".

Got home this morning and thought I would put up a quick post. Yesterday was a gorgeous day to be fishing and the trout were cooperating. Had another 60 trout day. Should have had a limit for my three guys, but I made an error in choice of second stop. By the time I ran to the third stop we had lost a little time, but my guys made up for the loss. From the first cast the bite was on. The bite is still under a cork in about 3 ft of water. The Bayou Chub is working its magic. Even though the Chub is laced with Lagniappe Juice, I still like to pour some over the baits and let them soak. The water is trying to clean up in some areas, and fishing is just going to keep getting better. Give me a call and let's go fishing. 225-752-0708. Until next time "stick em and net em". Capt. Larry

It has been a while since I last posted, and for that I apologize. The fishing isn't as easy as it will be, but there are places holding clean water, and that means trout and redfish. The last two groups I had on the boat had plenty of filets to take home. Limits of reds and quite a few trout found their way back to the Venice Marina. Spoons, topwater, spinnerbaits, and plastic under a cork have been the producers. It is your choice. They are all working. The key is clean water, or cleaner water. I had a cancellation and a re-schedule this week, but I will be headed back to Venice in a couple of days. If you would like to make a trip, just give me a call. We will have a good time and catch fish. That is what it is all about. Until next time "stick em and net em". 225-752-0708 or 225-268-9616

The fishing out of Venice is really heating up. The trout are biting and so are the reds. The river is green and so are the passes and ponds. As goes the river so goes the fishing. And it is on right now. Limits of trout up to five pounds and plenty of redfish to stretch your string. Plastic fished slowly on the bottom (10-12 ft deep)and plastic under a cork later in the day in 4 to 5 ft. That is the ticket. If you would like to get in on the action, then give me a call. I have a couple of days open next week. 225-752-0708 or 225-268-9616

It has been one super week in Venice. Bayou Chubs and Lagniappe Juice have made the fish extra cooperative. Now I am going to take a few days off and enjoy the holidays with family and friends. I want to take this opportunity to wish all of you that chartered with me this year and my friends at RodnReel a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous new year. This has been a great year, and I look forward to fishing with many of you in 2003. Until next time "stick em and net em".

Capt. Larry Averitt

My folks were greeted yesterday morning with some stiff southerly winds to 20 kts. We decided to give it a shot and boy were we glad! They had their 75 trout limit by 10 am. The fish were eating up the Lagniappe Juice scented LSU Chubs in 5 ft of water. Some were caught on the bottom but most were feeding aggressively and the "strike indicators" were the ticket. Biggets fish was 5 1/2 pounds. Now that Bayou Chubs come impregnated with Lagniappe Juice, they work even better!! Don't forget to spray every couple of cast, thought to keep the scent out there. It was amazing how quickly you would get a bite whenever we put a fresh "stinky" Chub on or squirted it with juice. It was like throwing a live shrimp out there. Instant! I will be off for X-Mas week and Capt. Brent Roy and I will be chasing a bunch of Greenheads and 10 pt. Bucks that we are pretty MAD at! Merry Christmas everybody. If you have not booked your duck hunt yet, call me or Brent for some of SE LA's finest. 20 plus blinds on 10,000 acres in the heart of the Delta! No pirogues! No waders! Just five 16 ft GoDevil boats and great hunting. Capt. Larry-225-268-9616

Yesterday the winds blew and the trout bit. That's right! I had Mr. Sid Sanders and his son Justin on board for a day of Venice trout action. It started slow but really picked up about 10 a.m.. It was non-stop until the guys filled their limits, and we left them biting. All of their fish came on bayou chubs (soaked overnight in Lagniappe Juice) under a popping cork. If you havn't tried "the juice", you should. It works for me. I like to take a couple of different colors (purple/ch or black/ch) and pour Lagniappe Juice over them and let them soak overnight. That way I don't have risk spraying into the wind. Bad mistake. The fish are biting and I have a few days left in December if you would like to make a trip. We have been catching some really nice trout and the occasional six or seven pounder. Some of the best fishing is now. We have also started booking for the spring. Give me a call or email me to set up your trip. Until next time "stick em and net em".

Cacelled today because of 30kt winds, but it was a hard call because the trout and reds are biting. I have been having some excellent trips on specks and reds. The fall bite is on in Venice. If you haven't experienced it, then you owe it to yourself to give it a try. Yesterday my guys had their limit of 75 trout in no time, and this was after catching and releasing 25 + reds. It was fun for me to watch the looks on their faces when they hooked into a red in about 1 foot of water. They caught all of their reds on spinnerbaits and the trout came on ch. sparkle beetles under a cork. We fished downriver from Venice and found some really clean water. This is just the beginning of what is to come. I am booked for Nov., but am offering a winter special for Dec. at $99 per person (3 minimum and 4 maximum). If you would like to book a charter just give me a call. 225-752-0708 or 225-268-9616. Until next time "stick em and net em". Capt. Larry

Yesterday I had the pleasure of fishing with Johnny Downs, Lee Nettles, and his sons Brent and Derrick. We fished downriver out of Venice and toughed out some rough weather to catch a box full of trout and 3 reds. The trout ranged from 16 to 22 inches. The rain was relentless, but these guys came to fish. The trout came on shrimp under a cork, and the bite was non-stop until the wind shifted to the north. Except for the weather it was a great day. I just finished booking for November, and am offering a December special, $99 per person (mininum 3, maximum 4 people). If you haven't tried the winter fishing in Venice, you owe it to yourself to take advantage of this offer. The fishing is great!! To get the best dates you will need to book early. Today was a bit tough downriver. The water is stained and in places it would take a seeing eye dog to find the bait. However with the aid of Lagniappe Juice I was able to put my guys on 30 nice Venice trout. All of our fish came on Bayou Chubs (black/ch)on a 3/8 oz head under a cork, and sprayed with the juice. We had a really good time, and my guys got to see a lot of the Delta that they hadn't seen before. They even commented about how nice it was to be able to enjoy the sights that the Mississippi Delta has to offer. I guess we all forget at times that it is not always about the catching, but it is the whole experience. To book a trip call 225-752-0708 or 225-268-9616. Until next time "stick em and net em!" Capt. I scouted today for upcoming trips this weekend and next week. Glad to report that the fishing is good: Reds are plentiful and trout are good in spots. It seems as though the farther you get away from the river, the dirtier the water gets. But that should be clearing up in the next day or so. I've had a few cancellations for October. If you'd like to book a trip, here are the dates I have open: October 9 & 10 and 15, 16 & 17. These are weekday dates, so we won't have to worry about the crowds! I anticipate these dates will fill up pretty quickly, and the fishing should be excellent. Let's go fishin, guys. It's time. Call me at (225) 752-0708 or (225) 268-9616. Just made it home due to cancellation thanks to Hanna. Yesterday the pre-storm fishing for reds was excellent. Capt. Brent and I pulled in on the same wellhead looking for specks, but he had the crack, and I didn't want to crowd him. I left with my group and went to a pile of reds I had located on Thursday. It was fast and furious with the guys getting bites on just about every cast. Walter, Tom, and Shannon had a blast catching 20 to 27 inch reds on purple/ch and black/ch chubs on a 3/8 oz. jighead. It didn't take long for the guys to boat a limit, and they caught and released several more. It was a fun day for all! The fall bite isn't far away. I don't have any days left for October, but I still have a few in September and November. If you would like to get in on the Venice fall fishing, give me a call. 225-752-0708 or 225-268-9616. The fishing out of Venice is topnotch. Yesterday I had Butch and Gordon out for a day of fishing. And fish they did. We started the day with 5 big sow trout, and no sooner had we netted the fifth one a jack-up rig pulled in on us. I tried to ride it out in hope the big girls would move back in and resume attacking our offerings. Needless to say that bite was over. Not to be outdone, we headed to another hot spot and proceeded to fill their trout limits. The trout weren't as big, but they were trout. The bite was still on when we left to catch reds. It didn't take long for the guys to fill that limit as well. Live shrimp and a few plastics soaked in the "Juice" did the trick. I had a great time with Butch and Gordon, and they enjoyed the fishing and good times. It always amazes me at how much fun can be had on a fishing trip. That's what it is all about. Good friends and good times! If you would like to join in the fun then give me a call, and let L.A. Charters book your next fishing trip. Let's go fishing! 225-752-0708 or 225-268-9616. I haven't put up a post in several days (maybe longer than that). The trout bite has been really good on the rigs, and my customers have caught some big trout (up to 5lbs). We have gone from one extreme to the other in Venice the last three days. Wednesday and Thursday were slick calm and produced excellent catches of trout and reds with a few flounder thrown in. Today was blown away. The wind brought a halt to the trout, but the redfish bite is still on. The reds are in the passes but are scattering up and down the banks. It makes for some excellent sight casting early, and if you haven't tried it, you don't know what you are missing. The flounder are in the passes, also. The trout have been best on live shrimp, and the reds and flounder are coming on 3/8 oz jigheads and plastic tipped with a piece of shrimp. I have a couple of days open next week, and the winds should lay, so if you want to make a trip, give me a call. Let's go fishing! 225-752-0708 or 225-268-9616. Until next time "stick em and net em". As soon as the winds lay from Bertha the spec fishing will be back to excellent in Venice. I have been one of the holdouts in the live bait category, and Friday I decided it was time to get with the program. I got a bucket of shrimp and was headed out to MP 69. When we got out of bed at the camp the wind was blowing steady from the wrong direction to fish that location. So armed with a bunch of live shrimp I headed to some protected points off of South Pass. It was on the second cast that one of my guys hooked up with a 2 1/2 lb trout. It's on! After many more casts and two reds later we moved to another spot. From then on it was hunt and peck. We ended the day with a nice box of fish, but the live shrimp didn't seem to help much as many of them came on purple and ch. chubs. The old adage of 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water was true that day. And the waves were 4 footers coming in on that 10%. Saturday was spent sight casting to reds. Watching a redfish eat your lure is pretty exciting. Purple/ch. chubs on a 3/8oz jighead bounced in front of the fish was the producer. You couldn't drag the bait, because the reds would spook from the mud trail. Sunday was a wash as Bertha wouldn't let us out of the Marina. Hopefully it will blow itself out today, and we can get back to fishing Tuesday. Let's go fishing! Give me a call at 225-752-0708 or 225-268-9616, and we will be happy to book a date for your next trip. Until next time "stick em and net em".

Fishing out of Venice is terrific. The trout and redfish have really turned on. The last three days I spent chasing big fish with Capt. Jeff Fuscia and Capt. Brent Roy. We fished the East side downriver and found plenty of big trout. Problem was we came up two pounds short for a five fish stringer (24.88 lbs) in the LA Sportsman Rodeo. We had to weigh a 4 lb fish and that cost us. Congratulations to Capt. Brandon Carter and his teammates on winning the rodeo in the guide division (27 plus lbs.). There were a lot of good trout brought to the scales on Saturday. There were also a lot of big trout caught for the Faux Pas Rodeo held at the Venice Marina. It is not often that charter captains get to target just big fish. This was a fun time for us, and I would like to thank all of those responsible for putting on these two excellent tournaments. The trout that we caught came on Deadly Dudleys in blue moon colors and a good spraying with Lagniappe Juice. We had a good supply of each, and it accounted for most of our fish. A few came on topwater baits, as did Capt. Jeff Fuscia's 3rd place redfish (32.75lbs) in the Faux Pas Rodeo. The bite is on! Let's go fishing! Give me a call at 225-268-9616.
